About The Artist: Jamie Treadgold - Pristine Art Studio
Born in Kelowna B.C. in the summer of 1962, I grew up surrounded by a large loving family spending the majority of my time in and on Okanagan Lake. As a youngster I enjoyed both art and photography and had a leaning towards nature and landscapes. After graduating high school I found myself in many different vocations searching for my place and path in life. Eventually I married and became a consultant in the commercial flooring industry in Calgary in 1995. Life went on happily for many years and was blessed with two sons, Shayden and Dawson. Soon after moving to the small town of Turner Valley in 2006, I began having serious health issues and underwent many tests, regrettably I was misdiagnosed. In September of 2008 I was taken via ambulance to undergo emergency surgery at Foothills hospital (in Calgary). A grapefruit sized tumour was found, the growth had broken through the wall of my colon which lead to sepsis, almost ending my life. A few weeks after the operation I met with a noted Calgary surgeon, this meeting changed my life.
For next four months I underwent radiation and chemotherapy treatments, in hopes of shrinking the tumour to enable the operation. During this period I was given some brushes, acrylic paint and canvas's by my then sister in-law Cheryl, I immediately found painting gave me a reliable escape. I began visiting the lakes, streams and mountains in my imagination, my paintings began to enable me to give insight to my life’s passions, and journeys.
As the medical opinion was “less than favourable” I found it important to (in some small way) leave a lasting legacy, I gave away many of my paintings as gifts of gratitude to my dear friends and family.
Upon completion of a 13 hr surgery and weeks in the hospital, painting became even more important. I once again accessed the lakes and mountains imagined, never leaving the warmth of a nearby fire and comfortable place which to lay . In the following months and in the midst of years of recovery, my new found love of creating grew, guiding and ultimately helping me cope with the lasting effects of the surgery, marital upheaval, as well as physical and psychological barriers. On February 24, 2010, I was declared cancer free and with our Lords generous grace, lived to beat the odds; Proof that miracles do happen, as I am now able to walk (and bike) the paths once only dreamed of during the time of my travail.
To date my art has appeared in Westworld magazine, been awarded in the Landscapes category at the Millarville Fair and has been featured at 'The Stop' in Black Diamond. I have also donated pieces for auctions such as YWAM Turner Valley, Oilfields High School Quest program, Wellspring Cancer Centre, Gospel for Asia Water Project, Cancer Chic and other worthy causes.
Along this journey I have many people to be thankful for, especially surgeon Tony McLean, the caring nurses of Foothills Hospital, my beautiful wife Karen, sons Shayden and Dawson, my late parents Bill and Irene, sisters Cathie, Nancy, Wendy, Julie and big brother Tom and my sister-"outlaw" Cheryl. Not to mention the beautiful people of Millarville Community Church and my Saviour who rescued me, without Him I would have never had made it out of the hospital. To this day their ongoing encouragement and love remains my true source of strength.
My hope is that my life and the art I create will in some small way reflect the love I feel towards these wonderful people, I sincerely hope you enjoy my paintings as much as I had creating them, stay tuned, there's more to come!
All the best,
Jamie Treadgold
